Grand Lake St Mary's State Park and Campground

• Yesterday,  we took a drive through Grand Lake St. Mary's State Park Campground.
• Years ago, we stayed at this exact location. Prior to the addition of these 5 air-conditioned Camper Cabins, which can be rented from April through October, this was one of our family's tent campsites.

• The current campground boasts 216 sites of which 135 are equipped with electricity. The facilities appear newer and include a modern restroom, a laundry, and a dump station.

• There's a separate swimming beach, boat launch and boat docks/tie-ups are available to registered campers.

The campground offers a Naturalist Program on weekends Memorial Day through Labor Day. They have a Full-service camp store. Bike rentals and miniature golf course along with basketball and volleyball courts, horseshoe pits, and playground equipment.

According to the Passport America web site, they still offer their discount at this Ohio State Park.

As we have dogs, finding a good dog park nearby a campground is important. 

We put up the pop-up and take off with the dogs. We hike with our 3 dogs but they also love being off-leash and playing with other dogs. From Grand Lakes Campground, there are two nice dog parks. One dog park in St Mary's and also a dog park in Celina. Our dogs have enjoyed sniffing around and playing with friends at both parks. And added plus is we are able to get a good WiFi connection too.

In addition to having 2 nearby dog parks, it is only a short drive around the 13,500-acre lake. While the north side of the lake is mostly residential,  restaurants, taverns, and marinas are scattered along the south side of the lake. 

Birding at Windy Point is thrilling as a great variety of both nesting and migrant birds utilize
the area. 

 I appreciate that there is a  state wildlife refuge complete with a lookout tower on the south side. 

We climbed the tower yesterday and took a few photographs of the February waterfowl.

If you arrive at the state park in the evening, the sunset is also spectacular over Grand Lake.

Grand Lake St. Mary's State Park is open for year-round with  recreation, including boating, hunting, fishing, swimming, and picnicking. And in recent years, the Ohio DNR has taken several steps to reduce blue-green algae blooms.
