Kendrick Woods State Nature Preserve

Winter doesn't mean you have to stay inside! There is a magical feel to this time of year. It's a perfect time to get outside and enjoy a  hike through silent trails of empty branches. Here, at Kendrick Woods State Nature Preserve, 5 miles of trail are designated for hiking and cross-country skiing with a .33 mile "All Peoples Trail" (boardwalk-handicap accessible).

As you stand along the trail, you spot a downed tree. Its roots are still embedded along the bank. The air is crisp and you may hear the sounds of birds chattering on swaying tree branches.

Here it's easy to feel tranquil and be surrounded by warmth. The sun shines bright on your face. And on the water. When you leave the woods you come to a clearing. A pond that is quiet now will soon be a hot spot for fishing. And the nearby shelter house, which is empty, will be filled with the sounds of laughter from frequent family reunions.
