Our Pop Up
We have tent camped for a good part of our adult lives and it seemed our vehicle was always stuffed. We got a rooftop carrier to carry our chairs and tent as our 3 dogs took up the back seat. This worked for awhile but having 3 dogs sharing a tent with us was crowded so we started looking around at used motor homes.
We found a motor home we liked but after spending some time in it - it seemed to enclosed for us. And after we thought it through, we didn't like the idea of needing to have a seperate vehicle on - site. Then my husband mentioned his parents had a pop up camper when he was a kid and that might be something to consider.
After we determine what our vehicle could tow, we began looking at a few pop ups on RV lots. We toured some small trailers and a newer high wall pop up. We developed some specific “wants”. We wanted something that was in decent condition. A dining slide would give us more floor space. We'd want a fridge, stove, potty, shower and a place to store our bikes.
I started researching camping blogs and saw that people were purchasing used campers from Craigslist so we looked there for a camper. We made a few calls but each time the camper was already sold so we gave up for awhile.
A year or so went by and we were tent camping up north with our dogs.
I got on Craigslist and found what I thought would be an ideal camper for us. A pop up with a slide and a galley, fridg, stove, potty, outside shower and bike rack. I liked that it had two king beds and a dining table that wouldn't have to be converted to a bed at night.
Luckily, the couple said it was still available and we could see it later that evening. We learned that they had purchased the unit new but it was now over 15 years old. They stored it in their pole barn when it wasn't in use. It was in decent shape and matched our lists of wants. It even had a bench seat that the dogs could use to access the bed so we wouldn't have to take along their steps. I loved it and my husband was agreeable so we purchased it right then.
We finished out our vacation up north in it. Later, that fall we traveled south and stayed in it too.
