Birdbath Planter- Begonias and Snapdragons
What would you do with a leaky birdbath?
Years ago, I was faced with this issue. One of our bird baths sprang a leak and I repurposed it as a planter. It set in the middle of the Hosta and Lily bed. And in spring, I filled it organic potting soil and planted a few colorful snap dragons and begonias.
I love begonias as they fill out well. And in addition to a beautiful bloom, they have a gorgeous leaf color and shape. Growing snapdragons is always fun! It brings back memories from childhood. We use to look inside and see all the insects captured in their dragon shaped, two-lipped, closed flowers.
Both flowers do well and provided color throughout summer.
Other planting choices I've used in a birdbath have been creeping jenny and trailing petunias with success.
I've also used creeping Jenny and Petunias in a bird bath.
Happy Gardening,
Lori
