First Peony to bloom this spring

We love peonies and are fortunate that there are many peony gardens nearby. 

Some peonies bloom early like those shown in the  Peony Garden above with Mr. S and Buddy.

Below is our first Peony to bloom this spring.  And I love its large luscious blooms. Peonies are not the easiest things to grow but I feel they are a must in our perennial garden bed. Peony buds secrete nectar which attract ants. The ants however disappear once the blossoms open and then the butterfly appear. 




Below is a  photo I captured of a Monarch Butterfly resting on a pink peony in my Aunt's peony garden. 





And they make some of the most beautiful flower arrangements.
