Victorian Birdhouses and Gingerbread Cottages

On a trip to Grand Rapids Ohio, we found this sweet little garden sitting along the Maumee River. It's decorated with Victorian birdhouses and gingerbread cottages.

We spent the afternoon in this area and took the time to enjoy this beautiful view.

Across the bridge, beyond the shelter house, you can see the Maumee River.

We shopped at the stores and then moved inside to a table at Miss Lily's American Restaurant. This was a new experience for us as normally we eat at Knucklehead's Kafe.

Once lunch was over,  we were off to look through the galleries in this charming town along the river which was the home of internationally known Dominick Labino.

Dominick Labino's work has been seen in national and international museums throughout the world and three of his inventions employing fiberglass were used to insulate the Gemini and Apollo spacecraft against extreme temperatures.

Time passes quickly in this quaint village. We spent part of the afternoon looking through the shelves at the Library House Books and Art store.

We also looked at some decor items for the house and garden.

When we left there, we walked the path beyond the brick buildings back to the little garden.

Along the way, we walked past a lovely lilac bush and a statue of St Francis of Assisi.

I enjoy the elegance and aged look of these birdhouses with a reverse board and batten vertical siding, gables, window balconies, and attractive pine shingles. I also like the colorful spring flowers.
