Ferns
People ask me if I shop at gardens club plant sales and the truth is yes I do. I appreciate the fact that garden clubs host plant sales and that the money from the plants sold often goes toward civic beautification projects like local parks.
I'm somewhat particular about the plants I purchase and generally look for ferns or succulents at garden club plant sales as I feel they are often healthier than what I find in the shops in our area. Every year we hang porch ferns.
A fern reproduces via spores and has specialized tissues that conduct water and nutrients and has a life cycle in which the sporophyte is the dominant phase.
Ferns have been used for centuries for medicine and food and are used as a biofertilizer. Around here they are used as ornamental plants or for remediating soil.
We often hike in an area that is thick with cinnamon and royal ferns.
