Garden Journal

Today, I walked out to the garden with my journal in hand ready to write down the lists of the plants contained and to post any new observations.

If you are new to my blog, we moved our Potager this spring from behind the shed to the east side of our property.

I began the process by drawing out a plan, measuring the sections and making  sure to include squares for raised beds, rectangles for the section tilled, dots for direct sows, small circles for  plants, larger circles for plants that needed room to spread out, rectangles with designs for any trellises and triangles for tomato cages.

My husband tilled a portion of it and I began planting. We then installed a fence made of chicken wire to keep the critters out.

I'd decided my journal would include, my planting schedule, productivity, happy surprises, mentions of rainfall and weather in general, pests and wildlife visits, things I pick up at garage sales, garden gifts received, time spent in gardens with family and pets, my wish list, and notations on winning plants and losers.

Today, I searched the garden for any noticeable changes. I noticed that the cuke has flowered that the okra stalk is starting to leaf again after being nibbled on.

The tickseed is starting to flower more and the beets had a black beetle on them which was struggling with my watering.

The sugar sprints are beginning to climb, more blue lake bush beans are making an appearance, and the flower on the eggplant is not looking too good.

I watered all in well and returned to the house.
