Landscape Features that Add Curb Appeal

I'm using a photo I took of Gene Stratton Porters home in Geneva, Indiana as this property incorporates many landscape features that add to curb appeal.

  • Add shrubs and trees to your property.
  • Complement your yard with beautiful flower beds.
  • Add a water feature.
  • Put in new sod.
  • Add a deck, pathway or retaining wall.

Gene was born in 1863 and married Charles Porter in 1886. They had a daughter, Jeannette and in 1888 they moved to Geneva, near the Limberlost Swamp. Gene designed this Queen Anne rustic log “cabin”. The home's interior is finished in Victorian and Early American Craftsman style.

Many people that read Gene's books know her as a well-known author and naturalist but she was also a great photographer and illustrator. In addition, she was one of the first women to form a movie studio and production company. You can my article about the visit here.

In the springtime, I add to the curb appeal of my property by planting a bed of impatiens across the front of our home. We have a forsythia and lilac that sit on either side of our open front porch, these bushes flower early, so we also trim these back in June.
