July 2019 Garden Highs and Lows

Well, July has passed by quickly and I can't say it was the easiest month of the year as I have spent much of it in a boot cast. But I have been able to work and get out and about in the garden and I am very thankful for that.

My predicament presented that I need an easier watering system. With the spring movement of the potager to a new location, I no longer have the use of the irrigation system. Now, I utilize a hose attached to a spigot. My husband did purchase a new attachment sprayer so that has made the job much easier as I do not have to enter the fenced in the area to reach all of the fruit and vegetables. Some, I'm able to water from outside using the different settings.

I would have to say the high of the garden is the harvest. Our zucchini, eggplant, okra, and cucumbers are producing wonderfully and we have plenty of tomatoes on the vine that are just beginning to ripen.

My lows are pests visit daily.  While the Japanese beetles seem to congregate on our okra leaves, the cabbage moths have decimated our bed of brussels sprouts.

Another issue that I've hobbled into is that it is not as easy to get down in this boot cast and I missed a cuke that needed picking. When I finally found it- it was 17" long and weighed over 2 lbs.
