Stillwater Prairie Reserve, Covington Ohio
Our visit to Stillwater Prairie Reserve in Miami County, Ohio, was a peaceful and refreshing escape from the evertday. We began our walk at the Big Blue Stem Shelter parking lot, stepping onto a quiet trail. A couple ahead of us chose the path to the right, so we veered off into a different direction and found ourselves on the Storybook Trail—a charming blend of nature and storytelling that made the experience even more memorable.
Along the way, we crossed a few wooden bridges and peered down into what looked like a dry creek bed. Shortly after this, I paused to read a dedication plaque, then we continued along a beautiful boardwalk that traced the edge of the open prairie.
As we walked, the gentle sound of water caught our attention. Following it, we came upon the Stillwater River—and to our delight, a joyful Goldendoodle was splashing around in the stream to cool off. We exchanged smiles with its owner, and I took a moment to film the peaceful river scene. For a little while, we followed the dog down the path, letting him lead us forward.
Eventually, we realized we’d wandered farther than we’d planned. Turning back, we followed a service path that led us to a quiet, tucked-away pond. At my husband’s suggestion, we paused there, sitting on a bench and gazing out over the still water.
When we were ready, we rejoined the main trail, took a few turns, and before long, we were back at our car — tired, refreshed, and deeply grateful for the time spent together in nature’s embrace.
