Summer Moon Festival

The Summer Moon Festival in Wapakoneta is one of our favorite summertime traditions. This festival honors astronaut Neil Armstrong and features a variety of activities, including educational events, rides, and opportunities for photo ops with astronauts. It’s one of those events where there truly is something for everyone, and it’s always fun to spend time wandering through town and seeing what each corner has to offer.

One of the highlights is watching the Cardboard Boat Regatta. I’m amazed by the creativity and imagination that goes into building those boats. Some teams glided across the water while others took on water and sank before reaching the finish line. The enthusiasm of the participants and the cheering crowd made it one of the most entertaining events of the day.

I also enjoyed browsing the art exhibits at Riverside Art Center and the Moon Market, where talented artists and craftspeople displayed everything from paintings and photography to handcrafted gifts and home décor. It’s always a pleasure to meet local artists, admire their work, and appreciate the creativity our region has to offer.

The Summer Moon Festival celebrated not only Neil Armstrong’s remarkable legacy and the Apollo 11 moon landing, but also the strong sense of community that makes small-town festivals so special.
