Schoolhouse Farms
We were looking for something fun to do, and we definitely found it at Schoolhouse Farms!
What started as a simple sunflower-growing challenge turned into one of Ohio’s most interesting agritourism attractions. And this year, they went BIG.
Schoolhouse Farms created what owner Vaughn Davis believes is the world’s largest cartographically accurate sunflower map of the United States. In other words, they planted an entire map of the United States using sunflowers!
And we’re not talking about a little garden-sized map. This one covers 80 acres!
The sunflowers were planted using precision planting technology, which helped create the shape of the country. From the ground, you see fields of bright yellow sunflowers everywhere you look. But when you see the map from above, all those flowers come together to form the United States
There’s also a special reason they created the map this year. America is celebrating its 250th birthday, so the sunflower display is part of the Farms in Bloom Festival and is a creative way to celebrate.
I love that something that began as a simple idea—growing sunflowers—turned into something that combines farming, technology, creativity, and American pride. And honestly, there’s just something fun about walking among a field of sunflowers.
